  3. Vesconite Hilube for Underwater Applications

    Vesconite HilubeVesconite Hilube is a thermopolymer, designed for particularly difficult operating environments. Hilube is specifically recommended for moist and underwater applications. These include the pump and marine industry, where regular maintenance is not practically feasible or cost-effective. Displaying superior wear life, especially in poorly lubricated and dirty conditions, Vesconite Hilube has been shown to offer up to ten times the life of bronze bushings.

    Vesconite Hilube incorporates an internal lubricant that translates into an exceptionally low friction coefficient. Combined with excellent dimensional stability, low wear rates and a high load-bearing capacity. Hilube has a PV rating (pressure x velocity) four times that of nylon bushings.

    Vesconite is available in a wide range of rods, bushings, plates, and machined custom parts.

    No Water Swell
    Fully saturated, Vesconite Hilube has a negligible moisture absorption rate (0.5%). Its linear swell rate of 0.07% allows for fine clearances in the majority of applications. By way of contrast, nylons absorb moisture by as much as 9% of total mass – resulting in high swell rates and critical loss of clearance, which can lead to seizures.

  4. 3 Guidelines to Ensure Proper O-Ring Installation

    Incorrect O-ring installation can lead to assembly damage causing leakage during the first pressure test. If the system does not pressurize properly, the entire piece of equipment should be disassembled and seals must be replaced. Depending on when this test occurs, multiple manufacturing steps could be in between the seal installation and the first step where leakage can be identified. If O-ring damage happens with high frequency, you could be wasting time and money on seal replacement. Luckily, there are some easy steps that can be followed to help prevent this from occurring. Parker’s recommended guidelines for installation include always using lubrication, good gland design, and ensuring correct sizing.

    Lubrication Makes Installation Easier

    O-Ring Installation - Parker O-LubeUsing lubrication is an essential facet of proper installation. Lubrication reduces surface friction between the O-ring and mating surfaces, allowing the O-ring to seat in the groove with very little difficulty. In male and female radial seals, lubrication will reduce installation force and create a smooth transition as the piston is inserted in the bore.

    Choosing the proper lubricant requires careful consideration of your system. You must ensure the lubricant choice is compatible with the material being used, suitable for the temperature range of the application, compatible with the system fluids, capable of producing a high surface tension film, and does not clog system filters.

  7. Proven Seal Design, New Materials

    The Freudenberg Simmerring has been a successful product for about 85 years. It seals rotating shafts reliably, and is used in millions of applications and machines in many industries. The Simmerring is flexible, highly loadable, and very dependable. Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has now further developed Simmerrings for use in the process industry – and they are made of food-grade materials.

    At high rotational speeds and pressures, traditional PTFE shaft seal rings quickly reach their limits. Seal malfunctions and leaks are the result. Moreover, it has not been possible to use Simmerrings in the food industry to this point because their PTFE materials have not been approved for food-related applications. That’s why experts at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies have developed two new materials – from which tried-and-tested Simmerrings are manufactured – especially to meet the process industry’s requirements.

    Maximum Performance even under Extreme Pressure: B2PT

    Food-Grade SimmerringsSimmerrings with the B2PT design can be stressed with pressures of up to 10 bar. The B2PT consists of a newly developed material, Quantum® PTFE F18245, and a housing made of 1.4571 (V4a) stainless steel. The PTFE used here has been conceived especially for direct contact with foods. The still-required approvals under FDA 21 CFR §177.1550 und EC 10/2011 are in preparation. This Simmerring design is thus superbly suited for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The design of the B2PT can also be adapted for customer-specific, individualized applications.
