DuPont™ Kalrez® 7375, is an innovative FFKM oil-seal product exhibiting broad chemical and water/steam resistance properties required at high temperatures in chemical process industry applications. Kalrez 7375 parts present excellent compression set resistance, exceptional physical property retention, and improved mechanical strength properties.
Other Kalrez compounds have done the job over the years when faced with many of these sealing challenges, but how does it compare to this new compound?
O-Rings are solid-rubber, doughnut-shaped seals used to block the passage of a gas or liquid when pressed between two mating surfaces.
They are amongst the most widely utilized seal designs in the world. Due to the number of ways they can be utilized, there are essentially an endless number of O-Ring sizes.
But despite the wide range of O-Ring sizes, every O-Ring has the same two dimensions: the inner diameter (ID), and the cross-section (CS). To attain an adequate seal, it must achieve proper compression, approximately 18-20% in the cross sectional characteristic. This creates a boundary to keep fluids in and contaminants out.
Low temperature stiffness isn’t something unique to aging. It’s a problem that has plagued seal designers for years, particularly with respect to aircraft fuel systems. Modern aircraft employ a complicated fuel system with multiple connections along the path from input through exhaust. Safety demands complete integrity of those connections at all times across the complete operating environment of the aircraft. Particularly challenging is maintaining an effective seal at extreme low temperatures. For aircraft, the lower limit has been set at -65F.
There are two fundamental characteristics that enable elastomers to function as superb seal materials:
DuPont™ Kalrez® 8575 perfluoroelastomer parts are a white product for “select” etching, ashing/stripping and deposition process applications. It offers low weight loss in Oxygen and Fluorine-Based Plasmas, low outgassing and excellent elastic recovery properties. Kalrez® 8575 has excellent vacuum and long-term sealing performance, good mechanical properties and is well-suited for both static and dynamic sealing applications (e.g., gas inlets, chamber lid seals, slit valve door seals, etc.). A maximum continuous service temperature of 300°C (572°F) is suggested. Ultrapure Post-Cleaning and Packaging is standard for all parts made from Kalrez® 8575.

Our newest video release is something we tend to get asked somewhat frequently at Gallagher Fluid Seals. Despite it being a relatively easy subject, the question of "How do I find the size of my o-ring?" comes up more than you would think. We felt it made complete sense to do a quick video on the two most common methods to measure an O-Ring.
Plagued by global supply chain issues stemming from coronavirus and environmental issues, the natural rubber shortage continues to be exasperated by the war in Ukraine and Russia.
In 2021, shortages were reported mainly due to flooding and leaf disease. A poor crop led to a decrease in the cultivation of these highly desirable trees. The supply for raw gum already was expected to remain tight for several years due to the 7-year maturity period for the trees, but the unfavorable seasonal crop significantly affected the availability of rubber.
This blog article will also dive into the short supply of carbon black and its affect on the rubber availablity on a global scale.
Lubrication is an important, sometimes overlooked, component of sealing. Many applications require lubrication for installation to prevent seal damage and prevent injury during manual assembly. Internal lubricants reduce installation force and dynamic friction without the need for an external lubricant or coating. Internal lubrication also decreases break-out friction for dynamic applications. Operating seals with no lubrication can lead to heat buildup and accelerated wear that can result in leakage and shorten the seal’s life. Internally lubricated seal materials provide a clean alternative to grease or oil in an assembly operation.
This blog will discuss how they work and the benefits of internally lubricated o-rings.

Parker's 5-Dash series of o-rings are classified as commonly used o-rings sizes which do not fall in the AS568 line of o-rings and are also not true “metric” sizes.

While you could buy seals made with the size and materials of industry standards, sometimes the performance may not be up-to-snuff. Whether you have a static or a dynamic application, each one has its own unique traits and characteristics. Rather than finding a product that "fills the needs" of your specific application, wouldn't it be more prudent to create the perfect solution?
Using custom-engineered seals from GFS, specific to your application, can help solve that.
No matter the size, Gallagher can assist. Whether less than 1 millimeter or dozens of inches of diameter, our expert engineering team can help design the solution for the exact dimensions you need. Our ability to have the exact sizes and designs fabricated with our global partnerships can help you get it for the right price, too.
