Thordon PT80 Fluid BearingsFor more than  40 years, Thordon has provided a line of bearings products that are capable of carrying the operating loads found in all kinds of demanding applications, yet are flexible enough to resist wear due to 3rd party particle abrasion.

Thordon PT80  Fluid Bearings are the newest polymer material to join the company's elastomer bearing family, developed to provide an increased operating temperature limit of 176°F (80°C), while maintaining similar mechanical properties to the existing Thordon elastomer grades.

As Thordon notes on its website, PT80 bearings are specifically designed to handle the strict operational requirements for water/process  fluid  lubricated bearings in the industrial market.

Thordon PT80 fluid bearings were developed to offer a higher operating temperature limit (80oC/176oF) while keeping similar mechanical and functional properties such as low friction and low swell, high wear resistance (even when faced with abrasive particles) and dry start ability when compared to Thordon's existing elastomer grades. Thordon PT80 fluid bearings also offer improved environmental benefits during manufacturing, as well as in the finished product.

User Benefits

PT80 features increased hydrolytic and thermal stability, for use in both newer applications that need higher temperatures, or for improving safety in existing applications.

The benefits of Thordon PT80 fluid bearings include:

  • Improved physical and chemical property retention,  in  different  environments  (mostly  water) and  at  higher temperatures.
  • Higher hardness (Shore D >68) and toughness.
  • Increased PV (pressure x velocity) capabilities due in part to the product's higher thermal stability.
  • Improved environmental and water contact safety.
  • Low friction and good dry run capability similar to what users would find in Thordon SXL, due to its built‐in lubricants.
  • Superior abrasion and wear resistance,  also similar to Thordon SXL.

Typical Applications

Thordon  PT80  fluid  bearings have a number of new and retrofit bearing uses, in a variety of industries where reliable operation is essential. Some of these applications include:

  • Bearings for pumps in power plants (alternative energy, hydro and nuclear).
  • Bearings for pumps in chemical plants and other industrial facilities.
  • Bearings for firefighting pumps.
  • Bearings for pumps in sewage purification plants and storm water evacuation.
  • Bearings for sea water and service water pumps.
  • Bearings for irrigation and portable water pumps and other rotating systems.
