What is Die Cutting? The Benefits of Flat Bed Die Cutting

Die cutting is an all-inclusive term for the process of using a die to cut sheets or rolls of a variety of materials, such as foils, laminates, gasket materials, polyesters, polycarbonates, and more.

In our East Longmeadow manufacturing facility, Gallagher Fluid Seals operates a flat bed die cutting machine capable of producing small-scale projects that require simple, accurate cuts with lower tooling costs and quick turnaround.

Flat Bed Die Cutting

Flat bed die cutting, also known as steel rule die cutting, is a type of hydraulic die cutting that utilizes a flat fixed base and moveable head. The hydraulic flatbed pushes down blades that cut material to the desired shape – and in Gallagher’s case, the materials are gasketing materials or rubber. Material, most often in sheet form, is fed into the machine and simple shapes are stamped out.

This video will discuss, at a high level, the benefits of flat bed die cutting and the ideal materials to make the most out of your prototyping or small-volume projects.
