Two materials frequently compared are FKM (Fluoroelastomer) and FFKM (Perfluoroelastomer). While both offer excellent resistance to heat and aggressive chemicals, they are engineered for different levels of performance and come with significantly different costs.

What Is FKM?
FKM is a family of fluorocarbon elastomers known for outstanding resistance to fuels, petroleum oils, hydraulic fluids, and many industrial chemicals. Commonly recognized by trade names such as Viton®, FKM has become a standard sealing material across a wide range of industries because it balances durability, chemical resistance, and affordability.

What Is FFKM?
FFKM, or perfluoroelastomer, commonly known by its trade name Kalrez® is designed for applications where conventional elastomers reach their performance limits. Its highly fluorinated molecular structure provides exceptional resistance to aggressive chemicals while maintaining the flexibility needed for reliable sealing.
FFKM is often selected when equipment operates in environments where seal failure is not an option.
