Protecting Downstream Equipment with Garlock Strainer Gaskets

Garlocks's in-line strainer gaskets are an effective and inexpensive way to protect valuable downstream equipment such as metering devices from dangerous debris in the pipeline. The stainless steel mesh acts as a filter to separate weld beads/slag, pipe scale, grit, and other foreign materials from the process fluids.

Garlock Strainer Gaskets can help protect standard flange connections that are located upstream from sensitive or costly processing equipment.

They remove particulate matter and debris from process fluids and can be deployed as a single filter or as a graduated system of several strainers that consume less space and at a lower cost than other methods, such as filtration cartridges.

“Customers can now look to Garlock for an affordable and simple way to add filtration to their process flow,” Garlock Senior Product Manager Chris Hicks said. “The infinitely configurable nature of our strainer gaskets means we can help regardless of what your filtration needs are, or what the custom nature of your processing equipment is.”

According to Garlock, their strainer gaskets may be deployed as a single filter or as a graduated system of several strainers that consume less space and at a lower cost than other methods like filtration cartridges.

The strainer gaskets are come in a variety of materials and thicknesses, including the widely specified BLUE-GARD Style 3000.

Stainless steel plain mesh weave is standard, in 20, 40, 50, 60 to 1000 mesh. It is also available with dual layers (100 and 20 mesh) depending on filtration requirements.  Other configurable options include:

  • Nonstandard sizes. The gaskets are available in all shapes, including ring, full face, rectangular, with tabs or custom sizes.
  • All sizes are available up to 30” ID.
  • 1/8” overall thickness is the standard, but other options are available
  • With or without a tab for gasket installation and location identification
  • Available in all shapes, like ring, full face, rectangular, and with tabs or custom sizes
  • Ideal for 150# of 300#, but can be tailored
