Diagnosing Damaged O-Rings
Making sure you have the right O-ring is critical to avoiding leakage in your product or machinery. But if an O-ring fails, do you know how to diagnose the problem? Can you tell the difference between wear and compression set problems in a flattened o-ring? Identifying the right root cause is critical to solving the problem of damaged O-rings. Watch the video below to learn how to diagnose some

Garlock's PS-Seal: A GYLON® Powered High-Performance Seal for Rotating Shafts
The PS-SEAL® product line stands for reliable sealing of rotating shafts at high circumferential speed, high pressure and extreme temperatures. Abrasive media is sealed as well as aggressive media. Radial shaft seals typically do not perform well under these conditions as their seal lips are made of elastomeric materials.
These seals are used in many different applications and can also be an alternative to

Metal Seal Profiles
At Gallagher, we often receive unique requests for challenging projects, and customers who might be intimately familiar with elastomeric seals might have a better fit utilizing metal seals for their application. But, why might someone use a metal seal?
What is a metal seal and how are they used?
A metal seal is used when the application conditions are outside the specification limits of a polymer; extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme pressure, or a vacuum may be too excessive for typical rubbers or elastomers and demand a metal seal. With significant resilience coupled with the right material selection/coating for an application, a metal seal can be a very durable seal performing dependably year after year.
In order to understand metal seals a bit better, GFS thought it might be worthwhile to discuss metal seal terminology, and different profiles.
This is a short guide to reference common terms and profiles that may to new to end-users.
In this blog post, we will discuss the following:
- Common terms of metal seals
- Standard formed metal seals
- O-rings
- C-Rings
- Spring energized C-Rings
- U-Rings
- E-Rings
- Metal Wire Rings
- Axial C-Seal
- Boss Seal

Custom Piston Seal Rings for Composite Bores
Elastomerics or rubber O-Rings find their way into many applications, whether it be highly technical aerospace equipment or budget-friendly consumer products. This is typically for a good reason: because O-Rings provide a great sealing interface in most situations, are easy to install, are readily available, and can be purchased for a minimal cost (depending on material type).
In this article, our friends at Eclipse Engineering how a customer

PFAS in Seals and O-Rings
The family of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is facing intense scrutiny. A reporting rule will take effect in the United States in 2026, while Europe has actually been considering a sweeping, cross-industry ban on these substances since early last year. The implications of such a ban on fluoropolymers would be particularly critical, as a discontinuation of these high-performance materials would drastically impact many industries. But what kinds of challenges
